I believe that Bulgaria will continue to build upon the solid foundations of its traditions, expanding them towards sustainable development of innovative solutions for the future. With these words, President Rumen Radev addressed those present at the awarding of the prestigious "John Atanasov" awards.
The ceremony, which has become an annual tradition, marked its 23rd edition this year. The solemn event took place in the elegant Coat of Arms Hall of the presidential institution, and the date was not chosen by chance – it coincided with the memorable day on which 122 years ago was born the prominent figure, the inventor of Bulgarian origin John Atanasov, whose name proudly bears the award.
The air in the hall seemed to pulse with excitement as President Radev addressed those present. "It is a real pleasure to be here again and to recognize our young talents and their remarkable achievements in the field of computer science," he noted. Over the years, this ceremony not only pays tribute to individual success, but also builds upon the tradition of our country being glorified throughout the world through intelligent and ambitious Bulgarians. The Head of State emphasized that Bulgarian students and teachers continue to win awards and medals in the most prestigious international competitions. "I am convinced that their exceptional achievements excite not only the teaching guild, but also our entire society," the president added.
This summer, the successes of the Bulgarian young talents shone particularly brightly. The national informatics team achieved its best ranking in history. In addition, Bulgaria performed brilliantly at the Second International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence. But the news does not stop there. The most striking impression was made by the performance at the Balkan Informatics Olympiad, where a total of four medals were won, including one absolute gold. President Radev also specifically emphasized the exceptional performance of the informatics girls, which showed not only individual excellence, but also the increasing role of women in the field of high technologies.
The solemn atmosphere predisposed to reflection, as the president sent his most sincere thanks to the teachers, mentors, and scientists who tirelessly support young Bulgarians on the path to success. He did not fail to note the key contribution of the young university lecturers, who are building the foundations for future champions. "What you do – encouraging talent and knowledge, is the best investment in our future," President Radev concluded.
