The leading Japanese fashion company Uniqlo is taking a decisive step towards ecological transformation through a large-scale global denim recycling program, officially announced on July 24, 2025.
The "RE:JEANS" initiative covers 23 countries from different continents, including Germany, France, Japan, Canada, and Bulgaria, demonstrating an international commitment to sustainable production and consumption.
The program's mechanism is extremely attractive to consumers - customers can return their used jeans to the company's stores and receive an attractive discount on their next purchase. Returned items undergo a precise sorting and processing process.
Jeans suitable for reuse will be resold as second-hand, while others will be transformed into new textile materials or innovative insulation products for the construction industry.
Uniqlo is partnering with prestigious international organizations such as the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and the French Refashion center to achieve the ambitious goal of extending the life cycle of at least 2 million denim items by the end of 2025.
