The legislative changes, adopted on July 23, 2025, introduce unprecedented restrictions on electric scooters in Bulgaria. The parliamentary decision aims to radically improve road safety through the introduction of precise regulations.

The new provisions categorically prohibit the use of electric scooters after nightfall. Users are obliged to move only along bicycle routes, and in the absence of such routes – as close as possible to the right edge of the road.

The amendments to the Road Traffic Act represent a significant step towards safer urban mobility. They reflect the growing need to control alternative modes of transportation, which are becoming increasingly popular among the younger generation.

Experts emphasize that these restrictions are aimed at protecting road users and creating a more organized and predictable road environment. The new rules demonstrate the responsible approach of Bulgarian legislators to contemporary challenges in urban transportation.
