Rise in Student Numbers in Burgas: Investments in Education

Education in Burgas is experiencing growing interest. The number of students has jumped to 28,190 in the 2025/2026 academic year, accompanied by large-scale investments in school infrastructure, including new buildings and STEM centers. The city is investing seriously in quality education.

Burgas reports a significant increase in the number of students in its schools during the new 2025/2026 academic year, the municipality"s press center announced.

This is the culmination of a sustained positive trend observed over the past three years. The number of students has increased from 24,540 in 2023 to an impressive 28,190 this year, demonstrating a clear trend of increasing interest in education in the city. The same applies to first-graders _mdash_ from 2037 in 2023, their number has risen to 2750 in 2025. Even the number of children attending nurseries and kindergartens has gradually increased, reaching 7941 this year.

Investment in Educational Infrastructure

To meet this remarkable growth, Burgas Municipality has undertaken large-scale investments in modernizing and expanding its educational infrastructure. This year, four new nursery groups were opened, and 43 new classrooms were built in three new buildings _mdash_ in the Professional High School of Computer Programming and Innovations, in the shared building of the Profiled High School for Romance Languages and the Natural Sciences and Mathematics High School, and in "Hristo Botev" Primary School. The expansion of the capacity of the dormitories is also impressive _mdash_ 24 new rooms, providing 50 additional places for students.

Currently, Burgas is in the midst of an ambitious construction program aimed at meeting growing needs. The construction of a new school in the "Kraimorie" neighborhood is underway, as well as the construction of three new buildings for the "Vasil Aprilov", "Lyuben Karavelov" schools and the Sports School. This is complemented by three new kindergartens, while the design of four more kindergartens, two gymnasiums, a school swimming pool and another school is in the active phase. Alongside this, the construction of STEM centers and artificial intelligence laboratories in all Burgas schools continues, confirming the municipality"s commitment to modern education.

Popular Specialties

The 2025/2026 academic year is marked by a clear interest in specialties related to natural sciences, foreign languages, information technologies and vocational training. The "Natural Sciences" profile is the most sought-after, with 220 students enrolled in various schools, including PPMG "Acad. N. Obreshkov". In language high schools, there is great interest in profiles with German, English and Spanish.

The development of educational infrastructure and the increased interest in education in Burgas paint an optimistic picture for the city_q_s future. It is clear that the municipality has made a serious commitment to providing quality education for its children, and the expanding network of schools and kindergartens is eloquent proof of this.
