The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reports a serious increase in road traffic accidents in the country. The data from the last 24 hours paint a worrying picture - a total of 17 people were injured in 10 serious accidents.
The atmosphere in the country is tense, especially among those who travel on the roads.
In the capital, Sofia, incidents have also been reported. During the last 24 hours, 13 minor road traffic accidents were registered. Fortunately, there were no injuries in them, despite the heavy traffic.
The analysis of the statistics for the last few weeks raises additional questions. Since the beginning of the month, the MIA reports that a total of 162 accidents have been registered. The tragic balance includes 18 fatalities and 204 injuries.
The overall picture for the current year is even more worrying. Since the beginning of the year, a colossal 5795 road traffic accidents have been registered. This figure is associated with a heavy price - 389 people have lost their lives on the road, and 7218 have been injured.
The tension on the roads is palpable. Law enforcement officers are on high alert, but obviously the measures are not sufficient. It remains to be seen how the institutions will respond to the increasing number of incidents and victims.
