Saint Elijah - a prophet with exceptional charisma, who lived in Galatia during the 9th century BC, becomes a symbol of unwavering religious resilience. His name, meaning spiritual fortress, acquires a deep sacred meaning among believers.
During a period of massive pagan persecutions against the true faith, when rulers imposed idol worship in Samaria, the prophet took an unprecedented step. Through prayer concentration, he managed to cause a three-year drought, demonstrating his divine power.
The culmination of his mission occurred during a public challenge to pagan priests. He proposed a contest - whose sacrifice would be set ablaze from heaven, their god would prove to be the true one. While pagan officials prayed in vain, heavenly fire fell upon Saint Elijah's sacrifice.
This landmark moment triggered a massive revelation among the people, who recognized the true voice of God. Since then, his memory is celebrated with traditional sacrificial offerings and gatherings, accompanied by folk beliefs honoring the summer elements.
On July 20th, Elijah, Iliyan, Iliyana, Iliana, Ilko, and Ilka celebrate their name day. May their patron grant them spiritual strength and blessing!
