The Regional Prosecutor's Office - Burgas has filed a protest demanding a stricter measure of restraint for 18-year-old N.B., who is accused of causing a serious road incident. The young man, who was initially placed under "house arrest", may end up behind bars if the court accepts the prosecution's request. The incident, which shook the public, happened in the Sunny Beach resort and led to serious injuries for five pedestrians.

The prosecutor's protest is aimed against the decision of the Nesebar Regional Court, which determined "house arrest" as a sufficient measure of restraint. The state prosecution, however, insists that the nature of the crime—causing medium bodily harm to five people through negligence—requires a more severe approach, namely "detention in custody". According to the prosecution, the gravity of the crime, which is defined as particularly serious, necessitates this change.

The decision on the protest will be considered by the Burgas District Court on August 22. The session is key to the course of the investigation, which has already been taken over by the District Investigation Department at the suggestion of the Regional Prosecutor's Office. This move underscores the seriousness with which the case is being approached.

Details of the incident

The road incident occurred on August 14, when N.B., driving a four-wheeled vehicle, struck five people on a pathway near the Melia hotel. The victims were pedestrians, walking calmly in the resort complex. As a result of the impact, the vehicle crashed into a nearby building.

Immediately after the incident, police teams arrived on the scene, to whom N.B. stated that the vehicle had faulty brakes. He claimed he had discovered the problem immediately after renting the machine. However, this version is subject to further verification by the investigating authorities, who must determine whether his claim is true.

The investigation continues to work on clarifying all the circumstances surrounding the incident. Currently, two of the victims are still in serious condition and remain under treatment in a Burgas hospital, which further complicates the case. The other three were also admitted to a medical facility with various types of injuries. The case caused a wide public outcry, raising questions about the safety of pedestrians in resort areas and the responsibility of vehicle drivers, especially those for hire.
