The caretaker government at its meeting today approved a derogation from the sanctions against Russia for the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant. This allows the plant to conclude a public procurement contract and import iron and steel products from Russia.

The main reason for the derogation is to maintain nuclear safety and reliable operation of the NPP. Since many of the systems and equipment at the plant are of Russian origin, the supply of parts and components must continue from Russian manufacturers.

Kozloduy NPP is a key factor for Bulgaria's energy security, providing over one-third of electricity production.
