On the night of August 5, 2026, Russia launched a massive missile and drone strike on Kyiv and the Kyiv region, damaging logistics and warehouse facilities of several major Ukrainian retail chains. The attack hit distribution centers belonging to Silpo and the main logistics hub of NOVUS.
According to Silpo, the Russian shelling caused fires at two of its distribution centers. As of the latest reports, six company employees were killed, and the number of injured is still being confirmed.
The logistics center of the NOVUS supermarket chain also sustained several direct missile hits. Despite extensive destruction and a complete halt to operations at the facility, the company reported no fatalities among staff or partners, as the team was sheltering during the air raid alert. NOVUS noted that this was already the second strike on its logistics center.
According to official Ukrainian authorities, the overnight attack killed 17 people and injured more than 40 in Kyiv and the region. In addition to the Silpo and NOVUS facilities, Russian missiles and drones hit warehouses belonging to Epicentr, Rozetka, a Nova Poshta sorting center, and Fozzy Group facilities. Ukrainian sources reported that the strike involved 24 ballistic missiles, 4 hypersonic Zircon/Oniks missiles, and 115 drones.
The attack is considered one of the largest strikes on logistics infrastructure in the Kyiv region since the start of the war, with analysts warning of possible temporary supply disruptions in the affected areas.
