The Cabinet approved funding of 27,888,885 euros for projects of the Ministry of Education and Science (MES). The funds are intended to provide more places for children and students in kindergartens and schools, improve sports facilities and student dormitories by 2026, as well as for other projects carried out by the municipalities. This was announced by the government press service.
Part of the funds will cover expenses under the Program for construction, extension, superstructure and reconstruction of nurseries, kindergartens and schools, as well as under the Program for sports grounds and gymnasiums.
Transfers have also been approved for higher education institutions that are renovating student dormitories under a MES program. The Ministry of Culture also receives funding for the construction of sports infrastructure in art schools.
With another government decision today, decision 52 of the Council of Ministers from 2026 is amended to approve the financing of MES, state higher education institutions and municipalities for 2026. The amendment is related to the correction of a technical inaccuracy in the annex to this decision, indicating the correct location of three of the schools, where sports grounds will be renovated.
MES is implementing 2457 projects under four investments, financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan. The construction of STEM centers and high-tech equipped classrooms covers 2227 contracts worth 285,664,590 euros. 1076 contracts with schools have over 90% financial execution. Nearly 500 STEM centers have already been opened, and all over 2200 STEM centers are to be built by May 31, 2026.
