Over the past 24 hours, the fire services in the country have responded to 84 calls for incidents and extinguished 42 fires, the Main Directorate "Fire Safety and Population Protection" of the Ministry of Interior announced on its website.
One person died in the fires, and one is in danger of death. In both cases, the cause of the incidents is cited as an unextinguished cigarette.
A 79-year-old man, living alone, a disabled person, died in a fire in a house in the village of Gradishte, municipality of Levski, Pleven region. The fire alarm was raised at 9:44 am yesterday. The cause is negligence while smoking.
In a fire in an apartment in Sofia, a 73-year-old man was injured. He was admitted to "Pirogov" hospital with 23% burns, acute intoxication, and a life-threatening condition. The cause of the fire is again an unextinguished cigarette, the fire department points out.
Of the fires that occurred in the last 24 hours, 22 caused direct material damage - of which 12 were in residential buildings, one in an auxiliary building, four in vehicles, two in outdoor facilities, and three others. There was no material damage in 20 of the fires.
37 rescue activities and support operations were carried out - five in traffic accidents, 32 to provide technical assistance.
5 false calls were also made to the fire services.
