Mayor Alexander Sabanov reported on a successfully extinguished fire that broke out this morning in the second cell of the Regional Solid Waste Depot on the outskirts of Silistra.
Firefighters from three neighboring municipalities – Silistra, Tutrakan and Dulovo, mobilized joint forces to extinguish the incident. In parallel with the firefighting teams, heavy construction equipment was also involved, which helped quickly control the critical situation.
As a preventive measure, trucks with soil from a neighboring property were brought in to completely cover and isolate the affected area. Experts emphasized that no injuries or human casualties were recorded during the incident.
An official statement is pending from the Regional Inspection of Environment and Water in Ruse regarding the potential environmental impact and pollution levels.
The depot, located 5 kilometers from Silistra, is a municipal facility designed for waste management from various origins – household, construction and excavation masses.
