The Spanish Ambassador to Bulgaria, H.E. Miguel Alonso Berrio, visited Burgas and met with Mayor Dimitar Nikolov.
Direct Flights: The possibilities for direct flights from Burgas to Spain were discussed. The ambassador noted interest in a route from Sofia to Madrid and expressed the expectation that a route from Burgas would also be attractive. The mayor highlighted the benefits for students, workers, and tourists, but also noted the seasonality of the airport.
Industry: The Spanish diplomat showed interest in companies from the defense industry in the Industrial Park. Opportunities for the repair of aircraft engines under competitive conditions were discussed.
Education: Spanish teachers are ready to participate in training programs at the High School for Romance Languages.
World Paella Day Cup 2026: The ambassador will attend the qualifications for the World Paella Day Cup 2026 in Burgas, where the city is hosting the only European qualification.
Partnerships: Current projects with the Basque Autonomous Region and TECHNALIA (research center) on the "Regions for Climate" project, as well as cooperation with the Spanish city of Gijón on the Clear Cities project, were discussed.
