Strong growth for seaside airports in Bulgaria

The airports in Burgas and Varna, managed by the German operator Fraport, recorded significant success in June. A total of 593,964 passengers passed through the two airports, representing an 8 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

This result places the Bulgarian airports among the leaders in growth rate within the company's international network.

For comparison, the airport in Ljubljana is the only one to have reported higher growth (12.7%). At the same time, airports in Greece served 5.6 million passengers (+4.7%), and those in Brazil served 1.2 million (+2%).

Challenges for Fraport's global network

CEO Dr. Stefan Schulte points out that the first half of the year was marked by serious external challenges – from the strikes at Lufthansa to the shortage of aviation fuel. Consequently, the forecast for Frankfurt Airport for 2026 is to maintain the levels of 2025.
