Price Increase of Food Products in Bulgaria: Vegetables, Fruits, Dairy Products and Eggs Show Price Changes

The State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Markets (SCCEM) reports an increase in wholesale food prices in Bulgaria. The Market Price Index (MPI) increases by 0.88%. Vegetables (peppers, potatoes, zucchini), fruits (lemons, mandarins, oranges, apples) and some dairy products are becoming more expensive, while eggs are becoming cheaper.

Most of the main food products, fruits, and vegetables are rising in price on the exchanges in our country this week as well, according to data from the weekly bulletin of the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Markets (DKSBT).

The Trading Price Index (ITC), which reflects the price movement of food products wholesale in Bulgaria, increased by 0.88 percent to 2.519 points compared to 2.497 points a week earlier. The base level of the index (1.000 points) is from 2005.

Among vegetables, the biggest increase is for green peppers - by 15.10 percent to 2.76 euros per kilogram, followed by potatoes, which are up 10.67 percent to 0.56 euros per kilogram. Zucchini increased by 8.87 percent to 2.65 euros per kilogram. The prices of red peppers are higher - by 7.38  percent and they are traded at 2.62 euros per kilogram, for tomatoes - by 4.21 percent to 1.98 euros per kilogram, for cucumbers - by 4.92 percent 2.56 euros per kilogram. The price of carrots is also up - by 2.65 percent to 0.62 euros per kilogram, as well as ripe onion - by 1.35 percent to 0.45 euros per kilogram. Only cabbage is cheaper, which is sold wholesale by 1.23 percent less to 0.48 euros per kilogram.

Among fruits, the most expensive are lemons - by 12.43 percent and they are traded at 1.90 euros per kilogram. The price of tangerines increased by 0.60 percent to 1.35 euros per kilogram, and of oranges - by 9.19 percent to 1.26 euros per kilogram. Apples are also more expensive - by 8.13 percent and they are sold at 1.17 euros per kilogram. Only bananas are cheaper - by 1.86 percent to 1.48 euros per kilogram.

The price of cow's cheese is down by 0.23 percent to 6.20 euros per kilogram, and that of “Vitosha” cheese increases by 0.25 percent to 9.67 euros per kilogram. Yogurt (3 and over 3 percent fat content)  increases by 2.10 percent and is sold at 0.68 euros per 400 g cup, and fresh milk - by 0.16 percent to 1.23 euros per liter. The price of butter (a 125-gram package) is up by 6.53 percent to 1.73 euros per piece. Frozen chicken meat increased by 0.39 percent to 3.58 euros per kilogram, while eggs (size M) decreased by 1.87 percent and are traded at 0.21 euros per piece wholesale.

Rice is up 1.58 percent to 1.67 euros per kilogram, and lentils - by 0.86 percent to 2.11 euros per kilogram. The price of ripe beans increased by 0.65 percent to 2.16 euros per kilogram. Type 500 flour is traded at 7.45 percent less - at 0.77 euros per kilogram. There is an increase during the week for oil - by 1.18 percent to 1.71 euros per liter. There is also growth in the price of sugar, which is offered at 1.55 percent more to 0.92 euros per kilogram.
