Wholesale prices: vegetables and fruits are getting cheaper, what is happening with staple foods?

Data from the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Markets (SCCEM) show a decline in the market price index. See which fruits and vegetables are getting cheaper and how the prices of staple foods are moving in our country.

Trends in the Wholesale Market in Bulgaria

Most vegetables and fruits have become cheaper at wholesale markets in our country over the past week, while the prices of basic food commodities show mixed dynamics. The Market Price Index (MPI) decreased by 0.47 percent to 2.320 points.

The largest drop among vegetables is observed in peppers and tomatoes, with over 17-18% respectively.

Vegetables and fruits: What is cheaper?

Despite the general decline, price increases are recorded for cabbage (+3.20%), carrots (+4.11%), and dry onions (+7.49%). Among fruits, only apricots recorded a price increase of 4.58%.

Basic food commodities

In dairy products, there is a slight decrease in cow's cheese (-0.49%) and butter (-1.79%), while "Vitosha" type yellow cheese and yogurt are becoming more expensive. The price of rice fell significantly by 5.86% to 1.64 EUR per kilogram.
