Following an investigation by officers from the "Economic Police" department at the Plovdiv Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior, an attempt to misappropriate 47 prime movers and semi-trailers, purchased on lease by the logistics company "Econt Express" AD and subleased to another firm, was thwarted. The Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior reported on the case.
A few days ago, the company sought assistance from the police due to concerns that part of its vehicle fleet might be illegally removed from the country. According to preliminary data, the company to which the trucks were subleased was preparing a scheme for the unlawful disposal of the cargo vehicles, with plans for them to be transported abroad.
Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated under the supervision of the Plovdiv District Prosecutor's Office. A wide range of operational-investigative and procedural-investigative actions were taken within a short timeframe. As a matter of urgency, searches were conducted in an office and a car, and two of the trucks in question were discovered at a TIR parking lot near Plovdiv.
The trucks had their license plates removed and were loaded onto a trailer, which, according to investigators, was in preparation for their export. Material evidence was seized from the sites, including documents, invoices, stamps, and mobile phones. Numerous witnesses were also questioned.
As a result of the initial data collected, a 42-year-old man, believed to be a key participant in the attempted misappropriation, was detained. He has already been charged under Article 206, paragraph 1 of the Penal Code and is currently in custody for a period of up to 72 hours.
"Econt Express" expressed their gratitude for the timely actions of law enforcement, having sent a letter of thanks to the Minister of Interior and the Director of the Plovdiv Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior for the "quick and effective intervention" of the teams.
