Large-scale operation against the illegal trade of nitrous oxide
The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) conducted specialized inspections in Sofia and Pazardzhik, during which a total of 507 packages of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) were discovered, stored in violation of the Food Act.
The quantities found had no submitted documents for origin and quality, which poses a serious safety risk.
Details of the inspections:
- Sofia (Busmantsi village): 220 packages of 3.4 kg each were discovered in a semi-trailer at a parking lot. The company associated with the cargo does not hold a registration for food storage.
- Pazardzhik: 287 canisters of various volumes (3.3 L and 1 L) were seized from a private garage premise; they were confiscated and placed in police custody.
The BFSA reminds that inspections for the traceability of food additives will continue with strict rigor in order to ensure public health and compliance with the regulatory framework.
