Police intensify control for December 8th: Inspections of over 500 establishments, violations and safety measures

Over 500 establishments have been inspected before the Student Holiday. Fire safety violations have been found. The police are increasing control on roads and in resorts. The "Celebrate Responsibly" campaign once again calls for careful driving.

Student's Day - December 8th, will be under increased police control, announced Deputy Head of the "Traffic Police" Department at the General Directorate "National Police" (GDNP) Commissioner Maria Boteva at a briefing for journalists.

In connection with the upcoming Student's Day, inspections have been carried out at over 500 establishments where events are expected to take place, said Chief Inspector Yoto Vasilev, head of the "State Fire Control" sector at the "Fire Safety and Population Protection" Directorate. 79 violations of fire safety requirements have been identified, related to omissions in the documentation for organization and the lack of fire extinguishing equipment. 79 administrative documents and six acts for administrative violations have been drawn up, Vasilev added.

Organizational measures have been taken to ensure public order during the festive days, and additional police teams are provided if needed, stated Chief Inspector Milorad Yordanov from the "Security Police" Department at the GDNP. According to him, the surveillance of individuals of interest to the police, who are believed to be visiting locations for the holiday, has been activated. There will also be more police officers in the winter resorts, where the presence of students is greater.

Our teams will monitor the driving of vehicles under the influence of alcohol and drugs, as well as the roadworthiness of vehicles, said Inspector Dimitrina Ivanova from the "Traffic Police" Department at the GDNP. She recalled that in 2024, during the student celebrations, there were 12 traffic accidents, of which three were serious and nine were minor; there were no fatalities, and seven people were injured.

The Chairman of the National Representation of Student Councils, Angel Stoykov, noted that the "Celebrate Responsibly" campaign continues for another year and urged young people to drive carefully.
