Experts from the Road Infrastructure Agency continue systematic work to reduce traffic accidents in the Plovdiv region. At the moment, key interventions have been finalized on two critical sections that were identified as high-incident zones.
The first rehabilitated section covers a 340-meter section of second-class road II-56, connecting Kalekovets and Plovdiv, in the immediate vicinity of the "Skobeleva Maika" junction. Extensive improvements have been undertaken here, including the installation of flexible dividers that separate traffic directions and prevent risky overtaking.
The second modernized section is located on route II-86, immediately after the roundabout of Plovdiv's ring road with "Asenovgradsko Shose". On this section, road markings have been updated, new road signs and safety barriers have been installed.
The Agency explicitly recommends that drivers exercise maximum attention, strictly adhere to established traffic rules and speed limits. The main goal is to prevent risky maneuvers that could endanger the safety of all traffic participants.
The current activities are part of a larger strategic plan that envisages securing a total of 36 risky routes. In the next stage, measures for another 145 high-risk sections covering approximately 500 kilometers of road network are planned.
The selected sections have been identified based on a detailed analysis of dangerous driving maneuvers and the need to update traffic organization. They are included in the approved Work Program for implementing safety measures, adopted by Council of Ministers Decision No. 296 of May 9, 2025.
The deadline for implementing the planned improvements is set by the end of 2026, which demonstrates the systematic and long-term approach of institutions to improving road safety.
