UN: Zhelyazkov at the 80th Session in New York

Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov will lead the Bulgarian delegation to the 80th regular session of the UN General Assembly in New York, the government press service announced.

This event, marked by the significance of the jubilee anniversary, will place Bulgaria at the center of the world political stage.

Central Theme of the General Political Debate

The central theme of the General Political Debate – "Better Together: 80 Years and Beyond for Peace, Development and Human Rights" – emphasizes the need for a strengthened multilateral approach based on diplomacy, constructive dialogue and sustainable partnerships.

The United Nations is adamant in its pursuit of equality and interconnectedness of its three main pillars – peace and security, development and human rights. This is an ambitious goal, the realization of which requires significant efforts from all member states.

2025 is particularly important for the UN, marking 80 years since the signing of the Charter and 70 years since Bulgaria joined the organization. This is a historical moment that allows Bulgaria to highlight its long-standing commitment to the principles of the UN and to present its views on the future of the multilateral approach.

Prime Minister Zhelyazkov will meet with UN Secretary-General António Guterres during his visit. These talks are expected to be key to determining the future directions of cooperation between Bulgaria and the UN.

Meetings with representatives of American business are also planned, which also highlights Bulgaria"s стремeж for strengthening its economic ties with the USA.

The Prime Minister"s participation in the traditional reception organized by the US President, as well as in a forum of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, will further enrich his program and give him the opportunity to meet with various world leaders and analysts.

In honor of the 117th anniversary of the declaration of Bulgaria"s Independence, Prime Minister Zhelyazkov will attend an official reception for the Bulgarian community, organized by the Consulate General of Bulgaria in New York. This is a significant gesture that emphasizes the connection between the Bulgarian diaspora and the homeland.

The Bulgarian delegation, led by the Prime Minister, will include the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Justice, Health, Energy, and Labour and Social Policy. This broad representative composition demonstrates Bulgaria"s serious approach to the UN discussions and its desire to find a common solution to many important global problems.

The Council of Ministers approved Bulgaria_q_s positions and the composition of the delegation on September 2. The jubilee 80th session of the UN General Assembly began on September 9, bringing together delegations from all 193 member states in New York. The session is expected to be extremely dynamic, with serious debates on the most pressing global issues.
