BURGAS - In one of its most significant decisions in recent months, the Burgas Municipal Council gave the green light for the acquisition of a strategically important plot of land owned by "BDZ Freight Transport". The proposal by Mayor Dimitar Nikolov was adopted unanimously, marking an important step in the local government's efforts to alleviate the long-standing parking problem in the city.

The path to a solution: from plan to action

The deal is the culmination of prolonged efforts by the municipal administration, which started at the beginning of the year. At that time, the Municipal Council approved the initial changes to the Detailed Urban Development Plan (DUP), aiming to transform the western part of "Maria Luiza" Blvd. The main ambition of the project is to create about 200 new parking spaces, which will offer a breath of fresh air for thousands of residents in one of the most densely populated residential areas - "Vazrazhdane" district. This neighborhood has been suffering from a lack of parking spaces for years, which creates constant inconvenience and tension among residents.

Expertise and diplomacy behind the scenes

The process of acquiring the land proved to be complex and required coordinated actions by several institutions. It became clear that the land earmarked for the project is state property, distributed between two key enterprises: the National Company "Railway Infrastructure" (NCRI) and "BDZ Freight Transport".

After intensive talks and negotiations with the managements of both companies and the relevant minister, the local administration achieved a breakthrough. While the NCRI, as a state-owned enterprise, has the legal possibility to transfer its land to the Municipality free of charge, the situation with "BDZ Freight Transport" turned out to be different.

This is why a purchase was necessary

As a commercial company, "BDZ Freight Transport" operates under different legal provisions that do not allow it to dispose of its property free of charge. This made a purchase-sale the only possible option to finalize the deal.

The finalization of the deal is expected to unleash the actual work on the project and allow the Municipality to proceed with the creation of the long-awaited parking spaces, which will have a significant positive impact on the daily lives of thousands of Burgas residents.
