The National Security Service (NSS) announced that it is undertaking an internal investigation following the appearance of a video clip on social media, which shows the movement of a foreign delegation at the highest state level visiting Bulgaria. The announcement was distributed by the service to the media, provoking immediate reactions.
The NSS emphasized that the accompanying "motorcade" includes police cars, an ambulance, and all necessary security measures, in accordance with international professional standards. In this respect, the organization of such events is regulated and adheres to established procedures.
The official position expresses concern regarding the actions of the person who filmed the video, defining them as risky and posing "a threat to both his own safety and the safety of a person protected under the National Security Service Act, who is enjoying a high degree of protection."
The announcement recalls texts from the Road Traffic Act, which concern motor vehicles with a special traffic regime. Drivers of other vehicles are obliged to clear sufficient space on the roadway, and if necessary, to stop in order to ensure unimpeded passage of signaling vehicles, as well as those accompanying them. Moreover, it is stated that violators may be sanctioned with a fine of 200 leva.
The NSS stresses that disregarding the special traffic regime carries serious risks to the life and health of all road users. Ignorance of the rules of conduct on the road in such cases can lead to serious consequences, the service warns.
In conclusion, the NSS expressed dissatisfaction with, in their words, attempts to question the professionalism of its employees. It is recalled that both the National Security Service Act and professional duty require employees to prevent possible attacks against the protected persons, including at the cost of their own lives.
