The Kozloduy Municipal Council has made a decision that is a key step in the preparations for expanding the country's nuclear capacity. The councilors voted for the transformation and transfer of four municipal properties to state ownership, with the aim of securing land for the construction of units 7 and 8 of the Kozloduy NPP.

Why are these properties necessary?

The initiative is a result of an official letter received from EAD "Kozloduy NPP - New Units". The document insists on immediate actions to secure the territories that fall within the boundaries of the approved site for the new nuclear units. The project for the new units will use the modern AP1000 technology, according to the decision of the National Assembly from December 2023.

The proposal is critically important to prevent delays in the strategic national project for energy security.

What do the transformed properties include?

The properties that will be transferred are currently registered as agricultural lands. Specifically, it concerns:

After their transformation into private properties, they will be transferred to the state free of charge.

Strategic interest and rapid execution

Upon the proposal of the Mayor of Kozloduy Municipality, Marinela Nikolova, the councilors allowed for the preliminary execution of the decision. The argument is the protection of an important state and public interest, as well as the need to avoid bureaucratic delays that could jeopardize the schedule of the large-scale project for new nuclear units.
