The transformation of "Targovska" Street: From craters to modern infrastructure
After many years of decay, "Targovska" Street in Burgas – the former "Kumluka lowland" – has finally acquired a modern look. Municipal councilors voted to transfer the site to the assets of the Municipality of Burgas, which is a key condition for finalizing the project under the Recovery and Resilience Plan.
"Managers used to be ashamed to bring foreign partners here because guests had to put on boots to get through the mud and the broken road surface," Mayor Dimitar Nikolov shared during the debates.
What the new look of the area includes:
- Construction of an entirely new sewage and water supply network;
- Reinforced asphalt pavement suitable for heavy traffic;
- New street lighting, sidewalks, and modern bike lanes;
- Connecting infrastructure: gas, a treatment plant, and high-speed internet.
The street serves as a main transport artery, connecting the "South-West" Industrial Zone with "Zahari Stoyanov" Blvd. The project is an example of excellent continuity between different governments, and according to the mayor, it received the highest rating from the managing authority.
Protecting this asset is of utmost importance, as failure to meet administrative requirements would put the state at risk of having to return funds to Brussels. The proposal was accepted by a decisive majority of the local parliament.
