An afternoon raid in Pomorie uncovered an illegal cannabis grow house maintained by an elderly German couple. During an operation conducted around 1:50 PM today, officers from the Pomorie District Police Department carried out a thorough search of a private home on "Tuthon" Street, inhabited by a 71-year-old woman and her 66-year-old husband, who are long-term residents of the country.
Pomorie Police Operation
The police action was prompted by a tip-off, after which law enforcement officials acted with operational precision. Upon entering the property, officers discovered nine cannabis plants being cultivated at different stages of growth. In addition to the live plants, significant quantities of already processed drugs were also found in the home.
Dry green plant material, identified as cannabis, with a total weight of about 150 grams, was seized.
The discovery was not limited to cannabis. Police also confiscated ten brown pressed lumps, identified as hashish, with a total weight of about 30 grams. All found narcotic substances have been seized and will be subjected to expert analysis.
Consequences and Ongoing Investigation
In connection with the illegal activity, the 71-year-old German citizen has been detained for up to 24 hours. Her husband was not detained, but the investigation continues to establish his role in the criminal activity. A fast-track proceeding has been initiated in the case, which will reveal all the details about the origin of the narcotic substances and the intentions of the elderly couple. The case raises serious questions about the spread of drugs, including among foreign citizens residing in Bulgaria.
