Busy at Pirogov: Over 500 Patients on New Year's, Injured by Fireworks

The emergency department of Pirogov reported over 500 patients on December 31, 2025. Three were injured by fireworks, and the on-call shift was also busy in neurosurgery. Comparison with the previous year.

A total of 524 patients sought help in the Emergency Department of "N.I. Pirogov" Hospital on December 31, 2025, the press center of the medical institution announced. In the first hours of the new year 2026, emergency assistance was provided to three people injured by improper handling of pyrotechnic devices.

Of these, 11 adults and four children were brought in ambulances. The most patients passed through the traumatology office. 91 of those examined on the last day of the year were admitted to the hospital. 

By 9:00 a.m. this morning, 86 patients were examined – 62 adults and 24 children.

The New Year's Eve duty was also busy in the Department of Neurosurgery at "Pirogov". A fifteen-year-old child from Gotse Delchev was admitted with trauma to the face and left eye from pyrotechnics. An 11-year-old child from Pleven, who suffered an ischemic stroke, was also operated on. A 14-year-old child who suffered a severe combined trauma as a result of falling from the seventh floor was also admitted for treatment. Emergency therapy was also provided to a patient from Pernik with a tumor formation in the brain and to a woman from Sandanski with a brain contusion.

On December 31, 2024, 626 people had sought help at "Pirogov" Hospital.
