Increased control over heavy goods vehicles
Over 400 heavy goods vehicles have been inspected by the Sofia Directorate of Interior (SDVR) in just five days. The operation was carried out jointly with teams from the Executive Agency "Automobile Administration," announced Minister of Interior Ivan Demerdzhiev.
"The lack of sufficient control over the years has led to a disregard for the rules, and today we are facing striking cases," the minister commented.
Striking violation on "Botevgradsko Shose"
One of the most serious cases involves a heavy goods vehicle stopped for inspection on "Botevgradsko Shose." Although the vehicle has a maximum permissible mass of up to 3,500 kg, a mobile scale determined that its actual weight was 8,350 kg. This means an overload of nearly 4,850 kg over the limit. The vehicle was immediately taken out of service.
Ministry of Interior: Inspections are becoming permanent
Minister Demerdzhiev firmly stated that road inspections will no longer be sporadic campaigns but will become well-planned, permanent actions. The goal is clear – to reduce fatalities in accidents.
- Fatalities in accidents since the beginning of the month: 52 people
- Fatalities since the beginning of 2026: 270 people
- Injured since the beginning of the year: 4,667 people
Statistics show an alarming increase in incidents – 37 more deaths in 2026 compared to the same period in 2025.
