Over 37,000 Bulgarians Want to Vote Abroad in the April 19 Elections

More than 37,000 Bulgarian citizens from 66 countries have applied to vote outside the country in the upcoming parliamentary elections on April 19. Data from the Central Election Commission shows an increase in those wishing to vote compared to previous elections.

More than 37,000 Bulgarian citizens from 66 countries have expressed their desire to vote abroad in the early parliamentary elections on April 19. This is shown by a check on the website of the Central Election Commission (CEC). The data is as of 2:30 p.m.

A total of 37,305 are the confirmed applications for voting in a section outside the country. By March 24, Bulgarians abroad can apply to vote outside the country. For comparison, yesterday at noon the applications were 34,609, which shows that in just over 24 hours, almost 2,700 more applications have been registered.

The Deputy Chairman of the CEC, Rositsa Mateva, said on Thursday that in the elections in October 2024, 30,688 applications were submitted. Now, I assume that because of the restriction we have for countries outside the European Union, many more applications are being submitted, Mateva added.

At the beginning of the year, the parliament amended the Electoral Code and limited the number of sections outside our diplomatic and consular representations in countries that are not members of the EU to 20.
