A total of 13,967 motor vehicles and 16,197 drivers and passengers were checked on the road during the past day as part of a specialized police operation to enforce the Road Traffic Act, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) reports on its website.
3606 penalty tickets and 396 acts were issued for established administrative violations. The focus of the action is to prevent driving by drivers who have consumed alcohol, narcotic substances and/or their analogues, as well as driving vehicles by unqualified drivers.
A total of 15 drivers were found to have gotten behind the wheel after consuming alcohol – eight of them drove after consuming alcohol from 0.5 to 1.2 per mille, and seven drove with over 1.2 per mille, seven refused to be tested. Under the influence of narcotic substances or their analogues, eight drivers were caught driving, and five refused to be tested, the MoI informs.
Three people died in road accidents during the past 24 hours in Bulgaria, the MoI announced earlier. 15 people were injured, the total number of road traffic accidents is 13.
