The Ministry of Environment and Water (MOEW) monitors the condition of the reservoirs. To ensure free volumes, water is preventively released from the “Studena“, “Trakhiets“ and “Aheloy“ reservoirs. This was announced by the MOEW press center. The department manages the water resource in 52 significant and complex reservoirs.
As of March 16, the sum of the available impounded volumes in complex and significant reservoirs is 4892.4 million cubic meters, which represents 74.85% of their total volume.
The “Asenovets“ and “Pchelina“ reservoirs are at 100% full, and over 90% are the “Srechenska bara“, “Hristo Smirnenski“, “Kamchia“, “Yasna polyana“, “Borovitsa“, “Studena“, “Aheloy“, “Domlyan“, “Alexander Stamboliyski“ and “Krichim“ reservoirs. “Asenovets“, “Pchelina“ and “Pancharevo“ are overflowing.
According to the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology, there will be rain in many places by the end of this and the beginning of next week, and snow in the mountains. Today and in the next three days, river levels will remain without significant changes. Water quantities will be below the warning thresholds.
The MOEW reminds local authorities to implement the measures provided for in the Flood Risk Management Plans 2022-2027 and to follow the current hydrometeorological information and forecasts for dangerous phenomena, published on the official website of the ministry.
There are no critically low and critically high levels of the reservoirs, said the caretaker Minister of Environment and Water, Yulian Popov, a few days ago. According to him, there is no cause for concern, and the spillways perform their function when water overflows in the reservoirs.
