Pump station failure leads to sea pollution
RIEW – Burgas announced that it will issue an administrative act to ViK – Burgas (Water and Sewerage) due to unauthorized wastewater discharge in the area of the central beach in Sveti Vlas. An emergency inspection found that the seawater is heavily polluted, with visible traces of domestic and fecal waste.
Cause of the environmental incident
The cause of the discharge was a malfunction in the automated control of the "Sveti Vlas" pump station, which led to an overflow through the emergency collector.
Experts discovered that water with a specific odor and a yellow-brown color, accompanied by sanitary waste, was flowing from the collector. Currently:
- ViK has switched to manual pump control.
- An order for immediate repairs has been issued.
- An administrative violation act has been drawn up.
Situation along the Southern Black Sea Coast
The inspection also checked other reports over the weekend, including information about fuel oil on the beach at MMC – Primorsko, where the concessionaire has already taken cleaning measures. These cases highlight the need for stricter control over water infrastructure in resort areas.
