Major blow against smuggling at Kapitan Andreevo
Customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint prevented an attempt to import smuggled medicinal products and cigarettes. The violation was discovered during an inspection of a light commercial vehicle with foreign registration entering the country from Turkey.
The vehicle was driven by a British citizen of Turkish descent, who stated upon arrival that he had nothing to declare.
What was discovered in the vehicle?
- Medical products: A total of 1,564 packages, including aesthetic medicine preparations (hyaluronic acid and botulinum toxin), antibiotics, and antioxidants.
- Tobacco products: 3,000 cigarettes (150 packs) without the required Bulgarian excise stamp.
Following a risk analysis, the vehicle was selected for a thorough inspection, during which the goods were found hidden among the driver's personal luggage. The smuggled items and the vehicle used for the violation were seized. An act was drawn up against the driver under the Customs Act.
