A series of coordinated police operations on the Bulgarian-Turkish border revealed a large-scale attempt to illegally cross foreigners. On July 9 around 11:30 PM, a road patrol from the Border Police Department (BPD) - Ruse prevented a dangerous migration route by stopping a refrigerated truck with Latvian registration.
The vehicle, driven by a 30-year-old Belarusian citizen, was selected based on pre-prepared risk profiles. During a thorough inspection, the officers discovered a well-camouflaged hiding place in the front part of the refrigerated trailer, where 16 foreign citizens from Iraq were found.
The migrants were in the process of seeking refugee status, and initial conversations revealed that their final destination was Germany. The driver and illegal passengers were immediately detained at the police station.
The following day around 2:00 PM, another border police patrol from BPD-Svilengrad performed a repeated detention. In the territory of Filipovo village, Topolovgrad municipality, 12 additional illegal migrants without identity documents, again of Iraqi origin, were found and detained.
The investigation of both cases continues, with the competent authorities working to establish the full circumstances and potential channels of illegal migration.
