A series of targeted infrastructure measures are being implemented on the first-class road I-5, aimed at drastically reducing the risks of traffic accidents. Experts from the Road Infrastructure Agency installed dividing posts on a 820-meter section near the turnoff to Petelovo village, which is part of a priority safety plan.
The intervention includes innovative technical solutions - flexible barriers between traffic lanes that physically separate traffic directions and prevent risky overtaking. In parallel with the installation of posts, a specialized red marking has been laid, which visually sharpens drivers' attention.
The scale of the project exceeds the initially planned 36 routes. The Agency is developing an ambitious plan to secure an additional 145 sections with a total length of around 500 kilometers. The selection of risky sections is based on a detailed analysis of dangerous driving maneuvers and the need to improve traffic organization.
In parallel with the current activities, work is also being done on another 3.2-kilometer section of the same first-class road, connecting the turnoffs of Patitsa and Cherna Skala villages. The installation of posts in this area is in its final phase and is expected to be completed within the day.
The entire initiative is part of the Work Program for Improving Traffic Safety, adopted by Council of Ministers Decision #296 of May 9, 2025. The deadline for implementation of the planned measures is set by the end of 2026.
