A large-scale European project will transform a former social institution into a modern residential complex for unaccompanied children. The financing amounts to an impressive 12.7 million euros, with over 2.1 million leva allocated specifically for this settlement.
The new center will have a capacity to accommodate 12 children - 10 regular places and two additional for emergency cases. The team will include seven specialized professionals: a manager, six social workers, a teacher, a psychologist, and a staff translator.
According to current statistical data as of June, over 600 unaccompanied minor migrants are residing in Bulgaria - 589 of them from Ukraine, and 68 from other countries. The project aims to provide round-the-clock professional care and support for the most vulnerable groups of refugee children.
The public procurement for implementation is expected to be announced by July, with renovation and equipment of the facility taking four years. The institution will be built on the territory of a former social home, which will allow quick adaptation of the existing infrastructure.
