The Small Consumer Basket (SCB) in Bulgaria reached 61.05 euros in April 2026, which is a 2% increase compared to March. The price increase is mainly due to vegetables, fuel, and dairy products. KNSB calls for urgent measures to curb prices and support the vulnerable.

The total cost of the small consumer basket (SCB) in April 2026 amounts to 61.05 euros, which is an increase of 1.22 euros or 2% compared to March, according to data from the CITUB.

The largest price increase is observed for vegetables, with tomatoes leading with a rise of 29.1%. Potatoes increased by 5.3%, and lemons by 2.6%.

An increase is also noted for other goods: whole chicken (1.1%), eggs and oil (1%), 'Dobrudzha' bread (0.7%) and fresh milk (0.5%). The price of yogurt remains the same.

The increase in fuel prices is justified by geopolitical tensions. In January-April 2026, A95 gasoline increased by 20%, and diesel by 45%.

The CITUB highlights problems in milk production, which leads to the retention of high prices. In 5 years, dairy cows have decreased by 26%, ewes by 46%, and the production of cow's milk by 10%.

The trade union also notes regional differences in the prices of certain products, as well as an unexplained markup on packaged white beans and rice.

The CITUB proposes measures to limit fuel prices and measures to support vulnerable households. They propose a 10% ceiling on wholesale markups and 20% on retail markups.

The President of the CITUB, Plamen Dimitrov, also notes an increase of over 15% in the prices of bus tickets and defines the measure of releasing 20 euros for vulnerable citizens as insufficient.
