Food prices continue to rise

In June, the "small consumer basket" reached a price of 61.82 euros, representing an increase of 0.5% compared to the previous month. The annual increase in the cost of living amounts to nearly 9%, reported the Institute for Social and Trade Union Research at the CITUB.

"The perception of inflation among households is much higher than the official data, due to low incomes and high base price levels," commented Violeta Ivanova.

The problem with retail markups

The CITUB points out that retailers are applying markups in the range of 23.4% to a record 151.8%. The president of the union, Plamen Dimitrov, noted that the prices of basic products such as flour and fresh milk in our country are higher compared to other European countries.

Regarding the "Caring Basket" initiative, experts are skeptical, as it does not include fruits and vegetables – essential products for Bulgarian households.
