New Rules for Converting Lev to Euro in Bulgarian Post
Starting July 1, 2026, the "exchange of levs to euros" service at post offices will transition to a paid basis. After the free exchange period ends, according to the National Plan for the Introduction of the Euro, the company introduces fixed fees based on the amount:
- Up to 1000 leva: 6 euro fee
- From 1000.01 lv to 3000 lv: 7.20 euro fee
- From 3000.01 lv to 6000 lv: 8.80 euro fee
- From 6000.01 lv to 10,000 lv: 10 euro fee
To date, nearly 290 million leva have been exchanged through the "Bulgarian Post" service by over 229,000 residents in settlements without bank offices.
Conditions for Exchange after June 30
The service remains available at 954 designated post office branches, with the following restrictions:
- Daily Limit: Up to 1000 leva per person without prior request.
- Prior Request: For amounts between 1000 and 10,000 leva, it is necessary to submit a request 3 to 5 working days in advance.
It is important to note that several commercial banks in the country plan to maintain free conditions for exchanging levs into euros or depositing funds into an account after the state term expires, therefore we advise consumers to check their bank's current tariffs.
