The Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) officially declared its support for the new draft Resolution of the Council of Ministers, which determines the poverty line for 2026. The experts from the institution emphasized the need for a strategic approach to reducing social inequality.
During a meeting of the Income and Living Standards Commission of the National Council for Tripartite Cooperation (NCTC), a detailed analysis of the proposal was presented. Magdalena Koshulyanova, an analyst from BCCI, participated in the discussion, presenting the organization's position. The employers' organizations BSK, KRIB, and AIKB also supported the proposed draft.
According to the presented data, the poverty line for the next year will be set at 764 leva, which represents a significant increase of 19.7 percent compared to the current year, when the threshold is 638 leva. Social Minister Borislav Gutsanov pointed out that the value corresponds to the "Income and Living Conditions Statistics (EU-SILC)" study.
The public discussion of the draft resolution concluded in early August, with various aspects of social policy being examined. BCCI paid special attention to long-term challenges related to the increasing number of people falling below the poverty threshold.
Trade union organizations expressed an opinion on the need to review the methodology and potentially set a higher poverty line. This point highlights the ongoing discussions regarding social policy and social protection mechanisms in the country.
