Giro d'Italia cyclist hospitalized at Pirogov after serious accident

A 32-year-old participant in the Giro d'Italia has been transported to Pirogov Hospital with a pelvic fracture following a mass crash near the village of Merdanya. The patient is in stable condition.

Incident involving "Giro d'Italia" participants

A serious incident overshadowed the "Giro d'Italia" after seven cyclists were injured in a fall near the village of Merdanya, Veliko Tarnovo. One of the competitors, a 32-year-old man, was rushed to the "N. I. Pirogov" hospital in Sofia.

The patient underwent comprehensive examinations and tests. Currently, his condition is assessed as stable, and he remains under medical observation in the hospital's trauma ward.

Before being transferred to Sofia, the injured were admitted to the "Dr. Stefan Cherkezov" regional hospital in Veliko Tarnovo. It turned out that the cyclist with a pelvic fracture was in the most serious condition, which necessitated his specialized care at the capital's hospital.
