GDBOP operation against organized crime in the Botevgrad region
The General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (GDBOP) conducted a large-scale specialized operation in the Botevgrad area, targeting criminal structures that have been harassing the local population for many years.
"The goal is to neutralize groups that demonstrate a high standard of living without having proven income for it, and exhibit arrogant behavior," stated Minister of Interior Ivan Demerdzhiev.
At the center of the investigation is the group known as "The Peevi Brothers". According to the gathered evidence, their criminal activities include:
- Usury: Issuing "quick loans" with prohibitively high interest rates.
- Violence and coercion: Using force and direct threats to collect debts.
- Sexual exploitation: Recruiting and inducing women to provide paid sexual services within the country.
Minister Demerdzhiev emphasized that such operations will continue in other parts of Bulgaria in order to put an end to the ostentatious behavior of individuals whose lifestyle does not correspond to their official income.
