Scheme for Millions: Ministry of Interior vs. Prosecutor's Office
Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev leveled sharp criticism at the work of the Bulgarian Prosecutor's Office regarding the "ViK Burgas" case. According to him, the actions of the state prosecution represent a direct denial of justice.
"The denial of justice is equivalent to collapse," Demerdzhiev stated emphatically in an official position.
Chronology of the Alleged Sabotage
- July 5: GDBOP (General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime) initiates pre-trial proceedings following witness interrogations.
- July 15: A municipal councilor, identified as the leader of a scheme for water meter manipulation and the draining of millions of euros, is detained.
- Subsequent actions: Instead of filing charges, the case "traveled" between Sofia and Burgas within 7 days, followed by four consecutive recusals of prosecutors.
According to the Ministry of Interior, the case was blocked for nearly three weeks, until the intervention of Prime Minister Rumen Radev led to the appointment of a supervising prosecutor and an audit by the Inspectorate of the Supreme Cassation Prosecutor's Office.
