Charges against former prosecutor Metodi Velkov
The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office has filed an indictment against M.V. (Metodi Velkov) for unlawfully obstructing a government official and hooliganism. The case, which sparked widespread public reaction, dates back to July 11, 2024.
"In addition to insults and threats, the accused got into an official Ministry of Interior vehicle and attempted to drive away by shifting into gear," the indictment states.
- The incident: During an attempted "Alcotest Drager" check, the prosecutor knocked away the testing device, thwarting the test.
- Behavior: In the building of the Nessebar Police Department, he made obscene gestures and threatened police officers with dismissal.
- Consequences: By a decision of the Prosecutors' College of the Supreme Judicial Council on February 19, 2025, Metodi Velkov was dismissed from his position.
A preliminary hearing for the case is scheduled for September 3. The evidence includes witness testimonies and numerous expert reports.
