Bulgaria has sufficient quantities of raw materials to guarantee bread production for the next three years. This was stated by the chairperson of the National Branch Union of Bread Manufacturers and Confectioners, Mariana Kukusheva, during a forum.

She called for a Consultative Council on Grain to be convened immediately after the elections, where the existing transitional stocks would be officially announced. According to her, such information would help to calm public attitudes and the industry.

Kukusheva refused to comment on the price of bread and the factors affecting its cost, stressing that she does not want the topic to be used in a political context.

She appealed for incentives to be provided in the budget for businesses that actually contribute to the creation of the gross domestic product.

Regarding child and student nutrition, Mariana Kukusheva recalled that, according to the current regulation, foods that meet approved industry standards, which all processing businesses in Bulgaria have, should be supplied. She announced that she had filed a report with the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) for municipalities where there are violations – Blagoevgrad, Montana, Vratsa, Botevgrad, Burgas, Strazhitsa. Kukusheva called for the relevant companies to be sanctioned and removed from participation in public procurement if violations are established.
