The Regional Prosecutor's Office in Burgas has requested a pre-trial detention measure for two men with the initials M. G. and I. D. on charges of illegal assistance to foreign citizens, the state prosecution announced.

The two are accused of assisting 25 citizens of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran to reside and illegally cross Bulgarian territory. The act was committed between August 23rd and 24th, 2025, in Sofia and Tsarevo, Burgas region, and is qualified under Art. 281 of the Criminal Code.

During the investigation, it was established that the two acted in complicity, one as an instigator, the other as an accomplice. The prosecution said that the perpetrator of the crime already has a final conviction for the same act. According to the prosecution, M. G. provided a vehicle and gave instructions on the manner and sequence of actions with which foreign citizens were assisted in crossing the country.

The prosecution also said that I. D. assisted in the commission of the crime by renting and providing a minibus to transport the foreign citizens. M. G. and I. D. were identified and detained after a series of successfully conducted operational and search actions by employees of the "Border Police".

The Tsarevo District Court is to consider the request of the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Burgas to take a pre-trial detention measure against the two defendants.

BTA recalls that on August 24th last year, shortly after 7:00 p.m., a border police patrol detained 25 illegal migrants from Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan in the Tsarevo area. They were found during an inspection of a truck with a 26-year-old Bulgarian citizen as the driver.
