Appellate Court decides: Will the head of ViK-Nesebar return to custody?
Today, the Appellate Court in Burgas is presiding over the case against the former head of ViK (Water and Sanitation) – Nesebar, Svilen Stanchev. The magistrates must decide whether he will remain under house arrest or be remanded back into custody.
Stanchev is accused of demanding and receiving a bribe in the amount of 8,000 euros to perform an official act regarding the connection of a property to the water supply network.
Chronology of the case:
- The arrest: Stanchev was detained at the end of June with marked banknotes following a report by an affected property owner.
- The District Court's decision: Initially, the magistrates left the accused in custody.
- The appeal: Last week, the defense succeeded in obtaining a change of the measure to "house arrest".
The prosecution is insisting on returning Stanchev behind bars, and it remains to be seen whether the court will confirm the current lenient measure or tighten his regime.
