Spiritual Talks in Burgas During Lent: Sunday of Orthodoxy and others.

The Metropolitan of Sliven Arseniy organizes spiritual talks with guest lecturers in the cathedral church "St. St. Cyril and Methodius" - Burgas during Lent. The first talk on February 28th will be led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ventsislav Karavelchev.

With the blessing of His Eminence, the Metropolitan of Sliven Arseny, spiritual talks with guest lecturers are organized during the five Saturdays of Great Lent.

This year, the talks will take place every Saturday of Great Lent at 5:00 PM in the Cathedral Church “Sts. Cyril and Methodius“ - Burgas.

On February 28th /Saturday/ at 5:00 PM, the first talk will be given by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ventsislav Karavelchev on the topic of Orthodox Sunday – The Triumph of Holy Orthodoxy.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ventsislav Karavelchev was born in Burgas in 1967. He graduated from the Faculty of Theology at Sofia University in 1992. He specializes in theology, Church history, and archeology at the universities in Geneva, Gregorian University in Rome, and Athens. In 1994 – 1995 and 2000 – 2002, he specialized in Islam and Christian-Muslim relations and Missiology at the University of Birmingham in England. For nearly 10 years, he worked with his wife as a missionary for CMS London (Church Mission Society). From 2003 to 2007, he taught at the Batumi Theological Seminary in Georgia. From 2008 – 2011, he worked in Kyiv at the Institute for Theological Studies “St. Andrew the First-Called“. From 2017 to 2019, he was the director of the foundation of the Bulgarian monastery of Mount Athos – Athos “St. George Zograf“: “Heritage of the Zograf Holy Monastery“. Since 2016, he has been a lecturer in Church Archaeology, Church History, and other disciplines at the Faculty of Theology at Sofia University. He is currently the head of the master's program “Christian Pilgrimage“.
