Enhanced security measures have been introduced in the area of Bezmer airbase, which have been developed for a higher risk level than what is currently being reported. This was stated by Minister of Interior Ivan Demerdzhiev after a meeting of the Council of Ministers.
According to him, the institutions are continuously monitoring the security environment and analyzing incoming information so that they can quickly change the organization and protection measures if necessary.
"For Bezmer, we have taken all possible measures, including ensuring we are covered, as the measures we have taken are for a much higher level of threat than that which is actually being reported through the services and incoming information," said Demerdzhiev.
The minister emphasized that the actions will not be formal or one-off. According to him, the measures will be reviewed and updated according to the development of the situation.
"We are constantly monitoring the situation and the processes and will continue to implement measures that are proactive and much more intensive compared to the level of threat information at the moment," he stated.
Earlier, the government announced that at the moment there is no data of a direct threat to the security of Bulgaria. Nevertheless, security at Bezmer airbase, the monitoring of the airspace, and measures for the protection of citizens and critical infrastructure have been strengthened.
