On July 24, 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria hosted important strategic consultations with representatives of the European External Action Service and the European Commission. The negotiations were devoted to the new strategic approach to the Black Sea region.

The delegation was led by Gergana Karadzhova, Director General for Political Affairs, and experts from key ministries - foreign affairs, defense, internal affairs, transport, and regional development participated in the meeting.

The consultations were held based on the Strategic Approach to the Black Sea, officially presented on May 28, 2025. The document is a result of the joint initiative of Bulgaria and Romania, who took the lead role in regional planning.

Bulgaria became the first country with which European institutions conducted detailed consultations after the decision of the member states' leaders in June 2025 to accelerate the implementation of the Strategy.

The main goal of the meeting was an in-depth exchange of views on the first strategic priority - strengthening security, stability, and resilience in the Black Sea region. European representatives discussed potential initiatives and practical mechanisms for its implementation.

At the end of the negotiations, the European institutions expressed official gratitude to the Bulgarian side for the constructive approach and expert opinions demonstrated during the consultations.
